Sewer Inlet Repair
Replacement
Sewer Inlets can be repaired and
replaced with a new MSD approved concrete frames utilizing
existing grates when possible. It the metal grates are bent or
broken, they will be replaced along with the new sewer inlet.
St Louis sewer inlets come in standard two,
three and four grate sizes with standard 15" x 30" grates.
Excavate around sewer inlet
First we have to excavate around
the sewer inlet using a milling machine to grind down the
asphalt on all four sides. The concrete frame is approximately
12" inches thick with an other edge which is paved over once the
inlet is set in place. The sewer inlet also has a metal channel
from in which the grates rest on.
Jackhammer around sewer inlet
One we have finished mill around
the inlet, we have to jackhammer around the concrete border to
loosen the sewer for removal. A skid loader is then used to
remove the old sewer inlet form the existing manhole. If the
manhole is damaged we will repair the bricks or concrete before
resetting the new inlet.
Clean Up
Preparing the manhole for the new
sewer inlet for a perfect fit, also includes going into the
sewer and removing any debris which may have fallen into the
main line which can be seen on the video below.
New Sewer Inlet
Standard sewer inlets come in
four sizes, single, double triple and four grate inlet stones.
Double grate inlets are most common in parking lots around St
Louis using two separate 30 x 15 grates made of either cast iron
or galvanized steel. This inlet seen here is a triple grate
stone replace at a Fed-X Air facility in St. Louis.
Asphalt Repairs
After the new sewer inlet is set
in place asphalt repairs is the final step of completion for a
long term parking lot drainage solution. Ensuring a proper grade
and a flush transition from the old asphalt to the new asphalt
is critical for proper water flow.
